Welcome to NordicSIF 2024 @12 June in Oslo! Norsif is the proud host of NordicSIF 2024 in Oslo – an important meeting place for the members of Dansif, Finsif, Swesif, IcelandSIF and Norsif. The purpose of this meeting is to share ideas and thoughts among responsible Nordic investors and to find joint solutions for existing challenges.
Transition Time
The NordicSIF 2024 Conference takes a closer look at the challenges and opportunities we face during the transition to a net-zero economy as well as the hard dilemmas that investors, asset managers, and lenders will face aligning with the transition.
Among others we will have a look at sustainable investments in a global perspective, the role of the financial services industry and what Norway and the Nordics can do to contribute to the global transition. We will dive into the energy transition and look at the opportunities and the new green industries that are developing the solutions we need to suceed.
Our speakers
NordicSIF 2024 has a series of high profile and high level speakers and panelists – and include among the following:
Alex Edmans is Professor of Finance at London Business School. Alex has a PhD from MIT as a Fulbright Scholar and was previously a tenured professor at Wharton and an investment banker at Morgan Stanley.
Edmans has spoken at the World Economic Forum in Davos, testified in the UK Parliament, and given several famous TED talks. Alex’s book, “Grow the Pie: How Great Companies Deliver Both Purpose and Profit”, was a Financial Times Book of the Year and has been translated into nine languages, and he is a co-author of “Principles of Corporate Finance” (with Brealey, Myers, and Allen).
Kjerstin Braathen is CEO of DNB, Norway’s largest financial institution. Braathen has had a successful career in finance and before becoming CEO she has held different positions in the DNB Group for over 20 years, and has served as both CFO, Head of Group Finance and head of Corporate Banking.
Martin Skancke is a pioneer in sustainable finance and a seasoned professional at the intersection of economics, governance, and environmental sustainability. He has played pivotal roles in climate-related initiatives. He was a member of the FSB Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and he chaired UN PRI for almost ten years. He led the Norwegian Climate Risk Committee in 2018 and he also chaired Climate Committee 2050, which delivered a comprehensive report on Norwegian net-zero goals in October 2023.
Ulf Sverdrup is a recognized figure in international affairs. He currently holds the position as Professor at the BI Norwegian Business School, after serving as the Director of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) from 2011 to 2023. Notably, Sverdrup led a government-appointed commission focused on the long-term perspectives for the Norwegian Government Pension Fund Global, showcasing his expertise in financial strategy and policy planning.
Carine Smith Ihenacho serves as Chief Governance and Compliance Officer at Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM). Prior to her position at NBIM, she served as the Vice President Legal and Chief Compliance Officer at Statoil (Equinor), where she played a pivotal role in shaping compliance frameworks.
Karl Mathisen is Chief Investment Officer Equities at Folketrygdfondet, after having served several years as portfolio manager in the same company. Previously, he has worked as a portfolio manager in Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM) in London, Oslo and New York and as senior adviser in Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries.
Jarand Rystad is the visionary founder and managing force behind Rystad Energy since its establishment in 2004. With an extensive background in energy system analysis, energy scenarios, renewables, supply chains, emissions, asset and company valuations, transactions, macro analysis, and the entire spectrum of the energy transition, Rystad is a recognized thought leader in the field.
Sverre Alvik is a seasoned professional in the field of energy transition and serves as the Research Director for Energy Transition at DNV GL and as the Project Director for DNV GL’s Energy Transition Outlook. Holding a Master’s degree in Naval Architecture from NTNU, Norway, Alvik brings over 25 years of extensive experience in DNV GL, with a primary focus on the energy and maritime industries.
Annie Bersagel is a Portfolio Manager ESG at Folketrygdfondet and a prominent figure in Norwegian sustainable finance. Beginning her career at McKinsey, she later transitioned to roles focused on sustainable finance, serving as acting head of responsible investments at KLP Kapitalforvaltning before joining Folketrygdfondet in 2018.
Jan Erik Saugestad is CEO of Storebrand Asset Management, a highly regarded player in the Nordic markets and a pioneer in the field of sustainable investments. Saugestad has a broad and deep asset management experience and knowledge gained over the years holding positions within the industry in companies such as Nordea, Handelsbanken and McKinsey.
Stina Torjesen has the role as Sustainability Advisor at Morrow Batteries, where she plays a pivotal role in their dynamic and cross-functional sustainability task force. Torjesen has a decade long of expertise in circular economy and sustainability, starting at the pioneering Norwegian consultancy, SIGLA. Torjesen also has a long career in academia and research. She holds a PhD from the University of Oxford and experience from esteemed institutions including the United Nations and the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI).
Marielle Furnes Mannseth serves as Group Brand & Sustainability Officer at Norwegian Hydrogen. As a seasoned board member in tech, finance, and industry, Mannseth is a recognised figure in sustainable technology and product development, and innovation. Passionately contributing to the green energy transition, Mannseth is focused on building the hydrogen industry.
Kjersti Haugland is Chief Economist at DNB Markets and a renowned Norwegian macro economist. She brings extensive experience from her time as Assistant Director of the Monetary Policy Unit at the Central Bank of Norway as well as many years working as part of DNB Markets’ Macro Team, specializing in the economies of Norway and Sweden.
Hans Thrane Nielsen is a Senior Portfolio Manager at Storebrand.He has nearly three decades working in portfolio management at Equinor and Storebrand for almost 30 years, and currently he is manager of Norwegian equities at Storebrand, where he manages the equity funds Storebrand Norway Institution and Storebrand Norway. Thrane Nielsen has also served on the Norwegian Corporate Governance Board for 12 years and been a part of the Oslo Stock Exchange’s index committee for 20 years
Torbjørn Kjus is Chief Economist at Aker ASA. Renowned for his profound insights into global energy markets, Torbjørn Kjus is a prominent figure in the energy industry. Formerly asset manager at Vistin Trading and celebrated for his extensive tenure as DNB Markets’ Chief Oil Analyst, Kjus boasts 18 years of invaluable experience in analyzing the intricacies of global energy markets.
Teodor Sveen-Nilsen is one of Norway’s leading financial analysts and works for SpareBank 1 Markets with a significant footprint in the financial advisory and energy sectors. He specializes in equity and credit research within the oil and gas sector, financial advisory, and capital markets transactions.
Our host and moderators
Eirik Bergesen is a renowned political commentator, programme host and former diplomat. He is the co-host of Norway’s leading podcast on foreign affairs, called “Det store bildet” together with Sofie Høgestøl. He also has extensive experience as an expert commentator from various TV programmes, specializing American elections. Eirik will be the host at NordicSIF24.
Heidi Finskas is Vice President for Corporate Responsibility at KLP, a role she has held since 2015. She has extensive experience in responsible investments, having previously served as an advisor at KLP. Notably, Finskas co-founded and chaired the first board of directors of Norsif and is a pioneer in the field of sustainable finance in Norway.
Sindre Heyerdahl, a distinguished journalist at E24, and host of the widely popular E24-Podden, boasts a career spanning nearly three decades in financial and economic journalism. As a prominent figure in economic media, his insights and analysis have garnered widespread recognition. Heyerdahl will moderate at NordicSIF24.
